Our History
The Yellowbook story is one of sustained success and growth. Through acquisitions and
new directory launches, we've grown from serving a small region on Long Island to
meeting the buying information needs of the nation. Today, we offer advanced online
search options and nearly 1,000 print directories that connect buyers and sellers
in towns across America.
2008
- In May, Yellowbook launched a new integrated marketing campaign entitled "Say Yellow to the Future." The campaign included a full branding makeover with a new streamlined logo and a name conversion to one word (formerly Yellow Book), new television commercials and newly designed print directories that present the company as a forward-thinking, innovative digital force of the future.
- In April, comScore announces that the Yellow Book Network is the top gaining internet site in the US. With a new record of 13.5 million unique visitors in March 2008, traffic to the Yellow Book Network, anchored by yellowbook.com, rose 54% from February to March and more than doubled versus a year ago.
- In March, Yellow Book and Cox Communications enter into a co-marketing and distribution agreement. Under this arrangement, Cox Business and Yellow Book will promote each others products and services through a variety of sales and marketing channels.
- In March, Yellow Book expands into South Carolina with the publication of Yellow Book directories in York County and Greenville/Spartanburg. The South Carolina expansion increases Yellow Book’s national footprint to 48 states, plus the District of Columbia.
- In February, syndicated research results reveal Yellow Book directories have greatest usage in Annapolis, Maryland, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Nassau County, New York.
- In February Yellow Book unveils a redesigned yellowbook.com with simple easy-to-use consumer interface designed to enhance the overall user experience and return even greater relevancy in search results.
2007
- In November, Yellow Book and DistribuTech signed a partnership to display Yellow Book directories in retail stores across the United States. This arrangement is exclusive in their common distribution footprints. Distribution will begin with 6,000 retail stores and expand to approximately 15,000. The deal provides consumers with a convenient pick-up point for additional Yellow Book directories.
- In September, Yellow Book launches a live advertiser video trial on yellowbook.com. The trial is a test of selected Yellow Book advertisers from across the nation representing a cross-spectrum of small and medium-sized businesses that advertise on yellowbook.com.
- In August, Yellow Book announces the acquisition of Prairie Wave Communications, the publisher of the Prairie Wave Blue Book directory that serves Rapid City, South Dakota and neighboring communities.
- In August, Yellow Book announces the acquisition of the Red Metro Phonebook of Meridian, Mississippi. The acquisition will strengthen Yellow Book’s presence in Meridian and surrounding areas.
- In August, Yellow Book announces the acquisition of BP White Directories, LLC, the publisher of Amtel Directories in Ohio. The acquisition includes directories serving Logan, Champaign, Union and Madison and extends Yellow Book’s coverage in Ohio.
- In July, Yellow Book and Charter Communications, Inc. announced a co-marketing and distribution agreement for Charter Telephone and Yellow Book product and service offerings. Through the agreement, Yellow Book and Charter will co-market products and services through a variety of sales and marketing channels
- In July, Yellow Book USA names Patrick Marshall Chief New Media Officer. Marshall will assume operating responsibility for Yellow Book’s new media products, including yellowbook.com and search engine advertising.
- In June, Yellow Book Network, Yellow Book USA’s online search property, led the category as the fastest growing Internet yellow pages (IYP) with an astounding 85% growth Q1 2006 to Q1 2007 according to comScore, a leader in measuring the digital world. Yellow Book Network’s 85% increase in searches beat out all other IYP competitors and far outpaced overall category growth of 5%.
- In May, Yellow Book announces the acquisition of MacGregor Publishing company. The acquisition of eight "Plaid Book" directories expands Yellow Book's footprint in the state of Washington.
- In May, Yellow Book announces the acquisition of Guide Communications, Inc., a publisher of ten directories in communities along the Hudson in New York State and Connecticut.
- In April, Yellow Book announces that industry-sponsored research reveals that the Yellow Book Pittsburgh-Allegheny County directory is number one with consumers.
- In April, Yellow Book announces that the Yellow Book Delaware County directory is #1 with consumers, according to Knowledge Networks/SRI (KN/SRI), the survey research firm hired by the yellow pages industry to conduct syndicated usage studies.
- In April, Yellow Book announces that syndicated research results for its Lubbock, Texas directory continue to climb.
- In March, Yellow Book announces syndicated research results for the Paradise Yellow Pages Oahu directory.
- In March, Yellow Book USA announces that it is the first in the industry to transparently audit and disclose its circulation figures. The audits are being conducted by Certified Audit of Circulation (CAC), the highly regarded not-for-profit circulation and research organization founded in 1956.
- In March, Yellow Book announces that the Yellow Book Tupelo directory is #1 with consumers, according to Knowledge Networks/SRI (KN/SRI), the survey research firm hired by the yellow pages industry to conduct an unbiased market share and usage share results.
- In February, Yellow Book announces that it has acquired the Paradise Yellow Pages from Paradise Media Group, LLC to deliver state-of-the-art print and Internet yellow pages in Hawaii. The deal delivers the best of both companies to residents and businesses on the islands of Kauai, Oahu, Maui and Hawaii and expands Yellow Book’s reach into 47 states and the District of Columbia.
- In January, Yellow Book announces the acquisition of the Hometown Yellow Pages directory serving the Atlanta suburbs of Douglas and Paulding Counties. The acquisition strengthens Yellow Book’s presence in the state of Georgia.
2006
- In December, Yellow Book announces the acquisition of three directories serving central California from Star S Publishing, including the Visalia Community Directory, the Hanford/Lemoore Community Directory and the Tulare Community Directory. The purchase of these community directories signifies Yellow Book’s commitment to the state of California.
- In December, Yellow Book announces the acquisition of the Roxborough - Manayunk - East Falls - Lafayette Hill Directory from Rabelo Advertising. The directory will complement the many successful existing Yellow Book directories that are already well known throughout Philadelphia. Consumers will benefit with localized buying information.
- In November, Yellow Book announces that it has acquired the Coastal Telephone Directory from Impact Directories. The Coastal Telephone Directory serves communities along the Washington and Oregon coasts.
- In November, Yellow Book announces that according to Knowledge Networks/SRI (KNSRI), the Yellow Book share in the Lubbock Designated Market Area (DMA) grew 2.90% to 50.3% in the 12 months ending September 30, 2006 in comparison to the 12 months ending June 30, 2006, indicating that Yellow Book is gaining greater strength as the dominant directory in the market. KNSRI is the survey research firm hired by the yellow pages industry to provide syndicated usage studies.
- In October, Yellow Book acquires four new directories from Savannah Publishing. The new directories include the Tri-Cities and the Greene and Hawkins County areas in Tennessee, the Southwest Virginia area and the Texoma area in Texas. The directories serve a population of more than 320,000 in areas contiguous to other Yellow Book directories.
- In August, Yellow Book announces that according to Yellow Pages Market Reporter (YPMR), Yellow Book now has the greatest consumer usage of any yellow pages directory in a number of its key metro markets across the U.S. The YPMR usage studies were developed by Knowledge Networks/SRI, the survey research firm hired by the yellow pages industry to provide syndicated usages studies. The results show Yellow Book to be the single most-used directory in Chicago, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Northern Virginia and gaining share as #2 in Manhattan.
- In March, Yellow Book announces that it has acquired two directories from Banana Publishing, Inc, a Massachusetts company. The books cover towns in both Massachusetts and Connecticut.
- In February, Yellow Book announces that it has acquired the Flagler County, Florida Yellow Pages Directory from Central California directories. This acquisition brings the total number of Yellow Books in the state to 33.
- In February, Yellow Book announces that it has acquired Click Forward Marketing LLC, based in Coral Gables, Florida. The acquisition brings together the technological skills of Click Forward with Yellow Book’s nationwide sales force and allows Yellow Book to deliver low cost leads to advertisers efficiently across the internet.
- In January, Yellow Book announces that it has acquired the Walker County Alabama directory from Alabama Publishing Group LLC. The company will now publish over 20 directories throughout the state, including Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery and Tuscaloosa.
- In January, Yellow Book announces that it has acquired the directory publishing business of Clarke Directory Publications, Inc., of Irwindale, California. The acquisition represents a union of two highly successful companies, both of which are committed to publishing great directories.
2005
- In November, Yellow Book acquires directories from Pinnacle Directory Company, Inc.
- In November, Yellow Book announces the acquisition of six directories from West Virginia Directory Company, significantly expanding its presence in the state of West Virginia.
- In September, Yellow Book announces that it will launch a Denver Metro directory. Consumers will now have the option of using their regional directories for local needs and the new Metro directory to access buying information for other parts of the city.
- In August, Yellow Book acquires the Dublin, Statesboro and Westside yellow pages directories from Yellow Pages of Georgia, further strengthening the company’s presence in Georgia.
- In August, Yellow Book announces that it has completed the purchase of four directories from Smart Books of Colorado, LLC, further strengthening the company’s presence in Colorado.
- In July, Yellow Book announces that it will publish a new directory in Hartford, Connecticut. The new directory will expand Yellow Book’s presence in the state of Connecticut, where it currently publishes eleven successful directories.
- In July, Yellow Book completes the purchase of TransWestern Publishing, combining two of the nation’s leading independent publishers of yellow pages. This transaction extends Yellow Book’s footprint into 46 states and the District of Columbia and increases its number of published directories to approximately 900 with a circulation of over 100 million.
- In July, Yellow Book announces the acquisition of Western Directory Company based in Fresno, California. This acquisition further strengthens Yellow Book's market presence within the state of California.
- In July, Yellow Book announces the acquisition of four directories in Mississippi from New South Directory Company. With this acquisition, Yellow Book will publish directories reaching 84% of the state’s population.
- In July, Yellow Book announces the acquisition of two directories from User-Friendly Phone Book, LLC. The Ohio Valley and Steel Valley books extend the company's footprint in Ohio and also give the company a first time presence in West Virginia.
- In May, the proposed acquisition of TransWestern for $1.575b is announced, strengthening Yell’s position as a leading independent publisher in the USA.
- In April, Yellow Book USA announces the acquisition of the Hot Springs, Arkansas yellow pages directory from Downey Publishing Company, Inc. The Hot Springs directory will expand Yellow Book's presence into the state of Arkansas.
- In April, Yellow Book USA announces the acquisition of the St. Clair County, Alabama yellow pages directory from Pioneer Telephone Directories Corp. The addition of this directory extends Yellow Book’s footprint in Alabama.
- In April, Yellow Book USA announces its entry into Hudson Valley, NY with one, affordable, consumer-friendly directory that will cover the entire Hudson Valley area. Until now, businesses have been forced to advertise in multiple directories to reach the entire Hudson Valley area.
- In February, Yellow Book acquires USXchange Directories’ Milwaukee and Racine Kenosha “One-Book” yellow pages. The acquisition gives Yellow Book complete coverage in the greater Milwaukee area.
- In January, Yellow Book acquires the Lake Havasu, Arizona directory from Cannon Publishing, Inc, expanding the company’s presence in the state of Arizona.
- In January, Yellow Book announces its entry into Lynchburg, Virginia, adding to a series of books it has successfully launched throughout the state.
- In January, Yellow Book announces its entry into Rochester, New York. The Greater Rochester Area Yellow Book will cover an area now being served by five competitor books and will give business owners the opportunity to advertise in one directory at affordable rates. The market is a natural expansion for Yellow Book from the nearby markets of Elmira and Syracuse.
2004
- In December, Yellow Book announces it will enter the Atlanta Metro market. The new directory, soon to become Yellow Book’s largest in the state, expands the company’s natural footprint in Georgia and smashes the BellSouth monopoly in Atlanta.
- In November, Yellow Book announces its entry into the southern Rhode Island area with its new Narragansett/Newport/Westerly Yellow Book. The new directory extends Yellow Book’s coverage along the northeastern shoreline.
- In October, Yellow Book announces the introduction of a wide-area directory in Suffolk County, New York.
- In October, Yellow Book announces the introduction of wide-area directories in several FL markets, including Coastal South FL, Boca/Delray/Boynton Beach FL, Davie/Plantation/Pembroke Pines FL, Coral Springs/ /Margate/ Tamarac FL and West Palm Beach FL.
- In October, Yellow Book announces that it will begin publishing a Williamson County, Tennessee directory.
- In September, Yellow Book announces its entry into the Santa Fe, New Mexico market.
- In September, Yellow Book announces its expansion in Alabama with the addition of two new directories: Alabama Gulf Coast and Eastern Shore Area.
- In August, Yellow Book announces that it will begin publishing a new directory in Sanger/Reedley, California. This new directory further expands Yellow Book’s footprint in the California market.
- In August, Yellow Book announces two new directories in Lower Eastern Shore MD and Kent/Sussex DE. The new Yellow Books will offer local businesses and consumers cost–effective alternatives to the multiple Verizon directories currently serving the area.
- In August, Yellow Book announces its arrival in two new central Pennsylvania markets with the Schuylkill County and Lehighton/Jim Thorpe Yellow Books.
- In June, Yellow Book announces additional expansion throughout the state of VA including new directories in the Charlottesville, Tri-Cities, South Hampton Roads, and Piedmont areas.
- In June, Yellow Book announces its expansion into New Hampshire with a Lowell/Nashua directory. The new directory offers an affordable advertising alternative to the two Verizon directories in the area.
- In May, Yellow Book announces plans to enter the $120 million Las Vegas, Nevada market. The new book will bring true competition to one of the nation's last remaining monopolies.
- In May, Yellow Book announces its plans for a new directory covering Cape Cod. This launch broadens Yellow Book’s coverage in southeastern Massachusetts.
- In May, Yellow Book announces that it will enter three new markets in Connecticut: New Haven, Meriden/Southington and New Britain/Bristol. As with other successful launches in the state, these books will give consumers and businesses the targeted local coverage that they prefer.
- In April, Yellow Book announces that it will be publish a directory in Southeastern Massachusetts. The new directory will provide affordable advertising for businesses from Taunton south to Fall River & New Bedford.
- In April, Yellow Book announces it’s that it will publish a new directory in Gaston County, North Carolina, offering advertisers a yellow pages alternative for significantly lower rates than the phone company directory.
- In March, Yellow Book announces plans to enter the Greater Syracuse Area market, further extending its footprint within the state of New York.
- In March, Yellow Book expands it’s presence into North Central Ohio, offering businesses a cost-effective alternative to the phone company directory.
- In March, Yellow Book announces the acquisition of Feist Publications, Inc., the fifth largest independent publisher of telephone directories in the nation. This acquisition expands Yellow Book's footprint in Oklahoma and Kansas and gives the company a presence in Texas for the first time.
- In February, Yellow Book announces plans to enter the Mobile, Alabama market. The new Yellow Book will offer area businesses a cost-effective alternative to the BellSouth directory serving the area.
2003
- In November, Yellow Book announces that it will be publishing a directory for Greater Worcester, Massachusetts. In addition to affordable advertising rates, the new Yellow Book will provide unmatched coverage of the Greater Worcester area.
- In October, Yellow Book announces its expansion into the Nashville, Tennessee market with the acquisition of CGC Publishing’s Nashville Area operation. The acquisition of the Nashville, Nashville North and Murfreesboro directories strengthens Yellow Book’s position in the state of Tennessee.
- In October, Yellow Book expands its footprint into Central Virginia and ends Verizon’s monopoly in the Richmond area by introducing the new Richmond Yellow Book. With this expansion, Yellow Book is able to offer Richmond Area businesses unparalleled value.
- In October, Yellow Book announces that it will begin publishing two new yellow pages directories along the Connecticut shoreline in Old Saybrook and the Clinton/Guilford/Madison area.
- In July, Yellow Book USA announces the acquisition of three directories in Alabama from Pioneer Telephone Directories Corporation. The new Elmore County, Chilton County and South Shelby County books extend Yellow Book's coverage in the state.
- In July, Yellow Book expands into Gwinnett County, Georgia offering advertisers a yellow pages alternative with significantly lower rates than the phone company directory.
- In June, Yellow Book acquires F.Y.I. Directories in New Jersey, extending Yellow Book’s presence in the state to Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland/Salem Counties.
- In June, YB announces that it will be publishing a directory in Fredericksburg, VA. The new Yellow Book will offer area businesses a cost-effective alternative to the Verizon directory serving the area.
- In May, Yellow Book announces that it will begin publishing directories in Norwich and Greater New London, CT. The two new Yellow Books will offer area businesses cost-effective, targeted advertising. The Norwich and Greater New London areas are currently included in a wide area directory published by SBC/SNET.
- In May, Yellow Book announces that it will begin publishing in Milford, CT. The new Milford Yellow Book will offer cost-effective targeted coverage for area businesses, giving them a better alternative to the wide area directory published by SBC/SNET.
- In May, Yellow Book announces that it will publish a new directory in Eastern Tennessee. The new Morristown/Jefferson City Yellow Book will offer local businesses a directory with affordable advertising rates and coverage that meets the needs of area residents.
- In April, Yellow Book announces that it will expand into its forty-first state with the launch of the new Providence, RI Yellow Book. The new directory will blanket three existing Verizon directories to provide the Providence market with a cost-effective yellow pages advertising alternative.
- In April, Yellow Book announces it will expand into Central Virginia with three new directories: Richmond, Fredericksburg and Petersburg. This expansion breaks the long-standing monopoly held by the utility company for over 100 years.
- In January, Yellow Book announces that it will publish a comprehensive directory covering the Ft. Lauderdale area of the Florida Coast. The new Coastal South Yellow Book will cover the area currently served by three separate BellSouth directories and will offer tremendous convenience to area residents.
- In January, Yellow Book acquires San Luis Valley Yellow Pages, LLC out of Monte Vista, Colorado, expanding its coverage in the southern portion of the state.
2002
- In December, Yellow Book acquires National Directory Company, the sixth largest independent yellow pages publisher, expanding its footprint into three additional states - Arizona, California and New Mexico.
- In November, Yellow Book announces that it will begin publishing one complete directory for the entire Suburban Essex County area. This new directory will cover the same area currently served by two Verizon directories and will offer tremendous convenience to area residents.
- In October, Yellow Book announces that it will begin publishing a Hunterdon County/Southern Warren County directory in western New Jersey. This new book will combine several of Yellow Book's community directories into one easy-to-use directory.
- In October, Yellow Book announces that it will publish a new directory in the Greater Middletown area of Connecticut. The new book will provide local businesses with a cost-effective alternative to the three SBC/SNET directories currently serving the area.
- In September, Yellow Book announces plans to expand its coverage in Prince William County, Virginia with a Woodbridge/Stafford directory. The new Yellow Book will offer local businesses a better product alternative with a better return on investment.
- In September, Yellow Book expands its footprint into the Eastern Shore of Maryland with the acquisition of two yellow pages directories from Chesapeake Publishing Corporation. These two directories will be combined to comprise the new Mid-Shore Yellow Book.
- In August, Yellow Book announces that it will expand its coverage in the Boston Metro area into the South Shore. The new South Shore directory will blanket 3 Verizon books in the market, giving advertisers a cost-effective alternative.
- In June, Yellow Book announces that it will expand its footprint in Birmingham to blanket the entire metro area. The new Birmingham Metro Yellow Book addresses the area's dramatic growth and gives businesses the opportunity to reach the entire market with one directory.
- In May, Yellow Book acquires the AlabamaDirect Cullman Area-Wide Directory, making the Cullman Yellow Book the single independent yellow pages directory in the area.
- In May, Yellow Book announces that it will publish a new Nassau County directory. This countywide directory will offer the same great features as Yellow Book's local community directories, with the addition of yellow and business white page listings for all of Nassau County.
- In April, Yellow Book's footprint expands into 19 additional states with the acquisition of McLeodUSA Publishing. This expansion gives Yellow Book USA a US footprint larger than any Independent or Telephone Company publisher, with coverage in 38 states, plus the District of Columbia.
- In April, Yellow Book acquires Pinnacle Directory Company Inc's Highland, Cashiers, Sapphire & Lake Toxaway Telephone Book. This acquisition expands Yellow Book's footprint in Western North Carolina.
- In April, Yellow Book announces that it will publish The Valley directory, a comprehensive yellow pages covering the Naugatuck Valley in Connecticut.
- In January, Yellow Book announces it has acquired two yellow pages directories from Mann Media in the Chenango, Delaware and Otsego County areas of Upstate NY. The acquisition of these directories, which are distributed to more than 90,000 residences and businesses, strategically bolsters Yellow Book's position in the Upstate New York market.
2001
- In July, Yellow Book USA announces its acquisition of CGC directories in Louisiana and Key West, Florida. With this action, Yellow Book enhances its coverage in Florida while expanding its footprint into Louisiana. This expansion increases Yellow Book's coverage west of the Mississippi River for the first time.
2000
- In June Yellow Book USA announces its entry into Westchester and Putnam Counties in New York. The Westchester/Putnam County Yellow Book will be the first directory offering comprehensive yellow and white pages coverage for all of Westchester/Putnam.
- In May Yellow Book USA acquires Sprint Publishing and Advertising's Midwest operations. This acquisition adds 55 directories to Yellow Book's business and expands the company's reach into the Chicago suburbs and into the Milwaukee area.
- In April Yellow Book USA announces its entry into Ohio and Kentucky with the acquisition of R H Donnelley's One Book Yellow Pages in the Greater Cincinnati area.
- In April Yellow Book USA announces its entry into Charlotte, NC, breaking BellSouth's stranglehold of this market, with the acquisition of Carolina Publishing, publisher of four North Carolina directories. The new Charlotte Yellow Book will be distributed to every home and business in the Mecklenburg County area.
- In April Yellow Book USA announces its entry into the Ocean County, New Jersey, marketplace with the Ocean County Yellow Book. This directory, which ends Bell Atlantic's monopoly in Ocean County, follows the tremendously successful Monmouth County Yellow Book launch.
- In March Yellow Book USA announces it expansion in Florida by acquiring four directories from SunShine Pages in North Palm Beach and Martin St Lucie areas.
- In March Yellow Book USA announces its entry into the Boston market. The Greater Boston Yellow Book, a city directory, will be delivered to more than one million homes and businesses. The Boston Metro West Yellow Book directory will be delivered in communities on the western area of Boston. The Boston yellow pages market will be changed forever.
- In February Yellow Book USA announces its entry into Fairfield County, Connecticut, and breaks the SNET monopoly. The Fairfield County Yellow Book will be the first directory in the market to offer comprehensive yellow and white pages for the entire county.
- In February Yellow Book USA announces its arrival in Rockland County, New York, with the acquisition of Dellwood Publishing Company. With this acquisition, Yellow Book is able to offer Rockland County businesses unparalleled value in print and online.
- In January Yellow Book USA announces the delivery of its first Montgomery, Alabama, directory, breaking BellSouth's monopoly in the market.
1999
- In December Yellow Book USA announces its arrival in the Loudoun County, Virginia, market. The Loudoun County One Book solution will provide full county coverage, including the Leesburg and Sterling areas. It will include unique user features in a handy, 8 by 10 in size and easy-to-read, three-column format.
- In October Yellow Book acquires Dixie Directory Company, publisher of six yellow pages directories in southern Mississippi. This acquisition expands Yellow Book's reach through major Mississippi markets.
- In September Yellow Book USA announces its entry into Carroll County, Maryland, with a unique One Book solution for the market. The new Carroll County One Book will cover the entire Carroll County/Westminster area and extend into the southern portion of Adams County, PA. This directory, which has been requested by numerous current advertisers in the Baltimore, Maryland and York, Pennsylvania, markets, will be published with unique features in a distinct 8 by 10 in size with three-column format.
- In August British Telecommunications plc acquires Yellow Book USA. BT is one of the world's leading telecommunications companies and largest directory publishers. This transaction will allow Yellow Book USA to accelerate its plans to strategically grow into new markets. Yellowbook.com's e-commerce capabilities will be propelled to a global platform utilizing the sophisticated technology of BT's Yell Internet site http://web.archive.org/web/20070608100928/http://www.yell.com/.
- In August Yellow Book USA announces its arrival in the Monmouth County, New Jersey, market. The Monmouth County Yellow Book will provide businesses with full county coverage, high usage, low rates and an opportunity to reach across the county and into cyberspace. Previously, full county coverage was only available through three different utility directories.
- In July Yellow Book USA expands to the Midwestern United States by acquiring Yellow Page One, a highly regarded yellow pages publisher serving suburban Chicago markets with nine directories.
- In April Yellow Book USA acquires the Dalton Area Talking Phone Book. This strategic acquisition reinforces the commitment to advertisers and users in the Greater Chattanooga and Northeastern Georgia markets.
- In March Yellow Book USA takes Manhattan by storm with the announcement of its new Manhattan Book. This ends the yellow pages monopoly in Manhattan. Finally, Manhattan has a choice. The new Manhattan Yellow Book gives Manhattan residents and businesses one directory with comprehensive yellow pages with both business and consumer headings, plus business white pages. - In February Yellow Book announces its entry into the Greater York/Hanover area. The Greater York/Hanover Yellow Book is a single directory that offers full coverage previously available through only two different utility directories. In addition to yellow pages, white pages, community information pages, restaurant menus, money-saving coupons and an area map, the Greater York/Hanover Yellow Book will also include bonus listings for Columbia, Pennsylvania.

- In November Yellow Book announces its arrival in five new markets in the Main Line/Delaware County area of Pennsylvania.
- In November Yellow Book announces its expansion in southern markets to provide Knoxville, TN, with a choice in yellow pages directories. Yellow Book's Knoxville directory is a complete directory offering full county coverage yellow pages, white pages with zip codes, community information pages, restaurant menus, coupons and an area map.
- In July Yellow Book USA acquires the Southern Directory Company, Inc., publisher of 29 directories in five states: Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina. With this acquisition, Yellow Book USA will publish approximately 280 directories in growth markets.

- In December, Yellow Book acquires the entire R H Donnelley Proprietary East directory business. This acquisition includes 43 yellow pages directories, including editions in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, D.C. This transaction makes Yellow Book by far the largest independent publisher of yellow pages in the US.
- In October, Yellow Book announces its entry into the Staten Island market with a complete directory offering full county coverage giving Staten Island businesses and residents a choice of yellow pages.
- In June Yellow Book acquires The Community Yellow Pages in Central New Jersey.

- Yellow Book announces the acquisition of Gannett Community Directories consisting of 40 local markets in Northern/Central New Jersey and upstate New York. The Town Phone Books is acquired in South Jersey.
